While there are several plants that can withstand even the coldest of temperatures, there are many that Michiganders will want to hold off on planting until the last frost of the year.
Plants Michigan's Frost Kills
Let's face it: prices aren't getting any lower at the grocery store, and if you're considering growing your own vegetables and fruits this year, you'll want to wait out the last frost of 2025.

Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, melons, eggplant, and okra are especially sensitive to frost, so you'll want to be positive the last one has passed before putting in the time and effort to plant them.
Preventing Frost Damage
If you've already planted and you're looking to protect your crop, Gardenia recommends covering your plants with tarps, blankets, or anything else that will protect the plant from the ground up. Cold air can still enter from the bottom and damage your garden.
