A very dangerous situation was literally 'shut down' by Michigan State Police and OnStar. Last month, a 10-year-old Buena Vista township boy decided to take a 2017 Buick Encore to 'meet his mom' in Detroit.

Saginaw County dispatch received a call from OnStar on May 27, reporting a stolen vehicle being driven on I-75. At the same time, 911 was also fielding calls from drivers reporting a juvenile driving on the same highway.

MSP Troopers then found the vehicle heading south on I-75 near the Birch Run exits. Full lights and sirens were used, but the driver failed to pull over.

OnStar then disabled the car, but not before it struck a guardrail.

The boy fled the vehicle once it came to a stop, but he was later apprehended and taken to the Saginaw County Juvenile Center. Fortunately, no one was injured and the Buick suffered only minor body damage.

Thanks to the quick action of the drivers who reported the 10-year-old driver, the quick response by Michigan State Police and OnStar, a potentially deadly situation was averted.
