The third year Maple Valley Lions coach has noticed plenty of progress on the field this fall.  And the latest sign of progress came Sunday evening when Maple Valley found out it is playoff bound.

The Lions who are 5-4, are in the state playoffs for the first time since 2005 after earning a spot as one of the additional qualifiers.

Here's more good news, Saranac is in the playoffs for the first time since 2011.  Like Maple Valley, the Redskins have improved their win total each year under their new coach of three years.

Other Lansing area teams earning opening round home games are Grand Ledge, Dewitt, East Lansing, Haslett, and several others.  Click here on the Lansing State Journal for more information.
