Mackinaw City is one of my favorite places to visit in Michigan and of course that also includes Mackinac Island. Two of the most beautiful areas to take your entire family on vacation.

There is so much history between Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City. That's why I highly recommend a week long vacation to let it all sink in.

And what about Mackinac State Historic Parks? One of those historic parks is going to close down on August 14, due to low staffing. They are going to close down for the rest of the 2022 season.

We're talking about the Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park, which is about three miles east of Mackinaw City.

According to mlive.com:

Staffing concerns, at the park as well as other sites operated by Mackinac State Historic Parks, prompted the decision, administrators said. Mill Creek staff members who wish to stay with the organization will be deployed at other locations.

I can honestly say that my wife and I have never been to Mill Creek Discovery Park. Who would have ever thought that officials would close down one of Mackinaw City's famous parks so early?

Based on their web site, mackinacparks.com, it's a very popular spot with lots to do. The only problem here is they don't have enough people to keep everything running smoothly.

So what did the Mackinac State Historic Parks director have to tell us? (courtesy of mlive.com)

“This is a difficult decision to make, and it’s not one we made lightly,” said Steve Brisson, Mackinac State Historic Parks director. “However; this is the correct, prudent decision. We thank our guests and members who visited Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park throughout the 2022 season, and we appreciate our wonderful staff who worked so hard for us this summer.”

Other than the Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park, all of Mackinac State Historic Parks will continue to stay open until their standard closing dates.
