The Old Farmers Almanac says that on March 14, 2025, a total lunar eclipse is set to paint our Moon a lovely shade of "apocalyptic red," which is why these events are also called Blood Moons, according to NASA. Whether or not we see it is completely up to Michigan Mother Nature (and we know she can be—indecisive—at times).
You're Going to Need Coffee (and Luck) to Catch the Lunar Eclipse in Michigan

Will We See It In Michigan?
Let's be honest: March, Michigan, and clear skies are three things that rarely go hand in hand. We could have clear conditions, OR we could have a blizzard. In the Mitten State, we've heard about lunar eclipses but rarely seen them.
If you're an optimist with lots of caffeine at your disposal, here are some tips for catching the March 14, 2025, total lunar eclipse in Michigan:
- Find an open sky: Meaning not under a blanket of lake-effect snow clouds
- Head away from city lights: Yes, your driveway counts as "too bright"
- Wear layers: It's Michigan, it's March. Put on everything you own.
