Professional sports have been back but there have been lots of changes this year because of the pandemic... including no fans in the stands cheering players on.

The Detroit Lions are currently in training camp but will officially begin the season this month. Last month, the Lions announced that fans will not be allowed at the first two home games scheduled for September 13 (vs Chicago Bears) and October 4 (vs New Orleans Saints). However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. FOX 17 reports that Lions are hoping fans could be back in the stadium for their November 1st game against the Colts.

In a statement from Rod Wood, the Lions Team President he said they feel confident they can provide a safe game-day experience for everyone.

We have spent considerable time and resources implementing new gameday protocols at Ford Field and are ready to host fans at Lions games once approved by state guidelines

Once fans are allowed in the stadium they must enter wearing a mask and keep it on at all times.

Ford Field has also implemented several changes to ensure safety such as:

  • New air filtration system
  • More than 250 touchless hand sanitizer stands and touchless faucets, toilets, and paper towel dispensers
  • Plexiglass at every point of sale
  • Cashless transactions
  • Food will be pre-prepared and packaged
  • Electrostatic sprayers to disinfect
