Lansing’s I-496 East and West Reopens for Highway Travelers
One of Lansing's busiest highways, which has been closed for the last five months, is set to open at 5 p.m., November 22.
i-496 East and West will open to all drivers beginning this afternoon at 5 p.m. And I will say that it's been a long time coming. What took so long?
I can't tell you how many times I ended up using the exit to Malcolm X Street or the St. Joseph Street exit just to get around all the road construction signs.
Michiganders are very excited because now it's a straight shot east and west on I-496. And let me tell you that I-496 looks awesome.
According to the Lansing State Journal:
The $80-million project began as part of a statewide effort to rebuild and repair infrastructure important to the state’s economic well-being.
This major I-496 project repaired multiple structures which included sewage drains and lighting.
I took a drive yesterday to get more of a street view on how I-496 was looking in the downtown Lansing area, and I have to say drivers are going to love it.
At least two miles of I-496 have been resurfaced east and west and the drive should be very nice for Michiganders.
I'm so happy this project is finally finished even though we had to wait several months for the end result.
I use I-496 all the time especially driving from the Okemos area. I usually take 96 west to 1-27 north and then I take I-496 west on my way to several stores off of Waverly rd. or I'll take I-496 west all the way to the Creyts rd. exit.
I-496 is definitely a major Lansing area highway and it's always busy with thousands of drivers heading east or west every single day.
