Lansing Mayor Believes in Our People and Our Future
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero delivered his final State of the City address on Tuesday at Sparrow Hospital. Even though Bernero will not seek a fourth term, he still has nine more months left in office.
Bernero said, "I've got nine more months, and we're going to keep our foot on the gas every step of the way."
Overall, I think Mayor Virg Bernero has been a very effective mayor over the past several years. For example, the Lansing region added 4,500 jobs last year, led by growth in manufacturing, construction, education and more.
Lansing has the lowest unemployment rate in 15 years and violent crime is down nearly 20% over the past 20 years.
Another highlight from Bernero's speech, some $2.4 billion in new economic development since 2006 has created over 12,000 jobs.
Our Mayor also said, "Believe in our people and the values we share. Believe in our future prospects to be an even greater city and region than we are today." Here's more from the Lansing State Journal.
