Lansing Mall on W. Saginaw Highway Listed For Sale
It's hard to believe that after all of these years open, the Lansing Mall in Delta Township is listed for sale.
The property includes 709,925 square feet of retail space on just over 81 acres, according to the Lansing State Journal.
When I read about this yesterday, it really took me by surprise. Years ago, and I'm talking about the 80's believe it or not, I worked at Houlihan's inside the Lansing Mall. I was one of the DJs who would work on weekends playing dance music for crowds of people.
Those were some of the best days for not only myself, but for many who loved going to the Lansing Mall, whether it was shopping, or going to Houlihan's for dinner and then dancing to burn off a few calories.
The mall property generates $1.2 million in net operating income annually, according to the listing.
Back in the day, everyone I knew when to the Lansing Mall. It was one of the best malls around.
Several mall tenants have closed in recent years. Two restaurants, Houlihan's and Chipotle Mexican Grill, have closed exterior storefronts at the mall within the last year. (LSJ)
Younkers and Macy's closed more than a year ago. And what about Regal Cinema? They've been closed for months.
Overdrive and Hit and Run Karaoke Bar & Grill, open for three and a half months in a space previously occupied by Tequila Cowboy & Grill, won't reopen, according to its owner. (LSJ)
Barnes & Noble, J.C. Penney and T.J. Maxx, are either permanently or temporarily closed.
So the question is: Can the Lansing Mall be saved? The mall's assessed value, $10.1 million, has fallen by more than 40% in the last decade.
