According to the Lansing State Journal, two General Motors assembly plant shutdowns in the Lansing area won't affect the pay of United Auto Workers members who miss work.

Employees will be paid under terms stated in contracts signed by the UAW and GM.  GM's Delta Township Assembly Plant, Lansing's Grand River Assembly and nearby stamping plants employ about 4,700 workers.

Both assembly plants were shut down late Wednesday night by GM at the request of Consumers energy, one of the state's largest suppliers of natural gas.

The utility requested to have the plants shut down so it can manage supply issues brought on by extreme temperatures and equipment issues at Consumers Energy.
