The Highest Point in Kent County, Michigan

Michigan has its share of “highest” things throughout the state.
The highest point in the entire state is Mount Arvon in Baraga County.
The highest point in Ingham County is Teaspoon Corners (a/k/a North Leslie).
The world's tallest Indian is the Hiawatha statue in Ironwood, Gogebic County.

And that list could go on and on and I'd never get around to the crux of this article: The highest point in Kent County: that would be Fisk Knob in the northeast part of the county.

Fisk Knob is a small four-acre park but has an elevation of 1,072 feet above sea level. Down Algoma Road is a small parking area big enough for less than ten vehicles. Get out and walk up the hill and you'll get terrific views of the countryside, especially in fall when the colors are out.

Fisk Knob has its own geological marker as the highest point, but the name was not made official by a United States Geological Survey. So far, it seems to be unknown if there was anyone named 'Fisk' that it was named after. Anyone know? It's just a couple of stones' throws away from where three counties all meet: Kent, Montcalm, and Newaygo.

The little park is open to the public from May thru October and is just one of those little quirky Michigan places that would be fun to add to your road trip itinerary. You'll find it at 17533 Algoma Avenue near Cedar Springs in Kent County.
