According to the Lansing State Journal, St. Johns area residents interested in jobs at a $555 million dairy processing operation taking shape just north of the city's downtown will get their chance to apply at a job fair on Tuesday.

Glanbia, an Irish food and nutrition company, announced plans for the $470 million cheese plant in 2018.

The project also includes an adjacent $85 million facility belonging to Proliant Dairy Ingredients, which is an Iowa company.

Glanbia will own 50% of the milk processing facility. Dairy Farmers of America and Select Milk Producers, large dairy cooperative investors, will own the other half.

Let's talk about the really fun stuff. Roughly 800,000 pounds of American style cheddar cheese will be made on site every day when the facility opens.

Most of it will be cut into 40 pound blocks, packaged and shipped to retailers and food service and ingredient companies.

The operation will employ approximately 290 people. The two companies will host a joint job fair to interview potential employees from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Agroliquid, 3055 M-21 in St. Johns.
