ROADSIDE MICHIGAN: The Old General Store in Jasper

If you want some cool shots of this old general store, you better travel to the town of Jasper before somebody decides to tear it down.

This is an awesome old building that remains standing while other old historic buildings have been demolished around it (SEE PHOTOS BELOW).

Jasper is an unincorporated village located in Lenawee County, Fairfield Township near the bottom of the state. The last census listed the population as 412.

The town's first settler arrived in 1824, but it took 50 years for a post office to be established, opening in 1874. The C & CS Railroad came through Jasper, later called the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway. The town's railroad depot was originally called Fairfield, until the village of Fairfield sprung up a mile north of Jasper.

In the late 1800's, Jasper had a sawmill, creamery, brick mill, one-room schoolhouse, general store and various other shops and businesses.

Today, it's a pleasant little town and deserves recognition, as well as your visit. Make this a stop on your Michigan roadtrip and get some great shots before it's too late!
