Meijer is making a change to its weekly sales ads and the move may not sit well with some Michigan shoppers.

Beginning March 16, the Michigan-based retailer's weekly sales flyers are going digital, according to a notice on its current print advertisements and its website.

Converting to Digital Advertising is a Trend

Converting to online or digital sales ads is nothing new. Several years ago, Rite Aid stopped printing weekly sales flyers, making their sale advertisements available only online and with the store's app. However, the cost-cutting move did not save Rite Aid from closing all its Michigan stores last year.

You may have also noticed that many restaurants now offer digital-only menus, a move that slashes printing costs and enables quick changes to item availability and pricing. Oftentimes customers can view these establishments' menus by using a QR code posted inside the restaurant.

Meijer Ads Going Digital

Beginning March 16, Meijer's weekly sales ads will be going digital. This means customers can use the retailer's smartphone app, website, or use their phone's camera to scan a QR code in the store that leads them to a website which lists the store's weekly sales items.

However, it appears that Meijer will not completely discontinue printing sales flyers altogether. A Meijer representative tells me that a limited number of sales ads will still be available at the entries to all Meijer stores and customers who wish to have a flyer mailed to them each week can do so by calling 877-363-4537.
