Quality Dairy Halts Donut Production After State Inspection
If you've lived around Lansing for any length of time, you know there are certain things you can count on.
Orange construction barrels. Michigan weather changing its mind every 20 minutes. And a good Quality Dairy donut.
Well, we're going to have to do without that last one... at least temporarily.

Quality Dairy announced Thursday, October 8, that production at its bakery has been temporarily suspended following a state food inspection.
And the reason is a little more serious than a broken donut machine.
Why Quality Dairy Stopped Making Donuts
According to a statement posted on Quality Dairy's Facebook page, inspectors identified sanitation and pest control concerns at the company's bakery.
As a result, bakery production has been temporarily shut down while those issues are addressed.
QD says it's working with outside specialists to correct the problems and won't resume production until the facility meets the state's food safety requirements.
That's obviously not the kind of news anybody wants to hear, especially from a company that's been part of the Lansing community for 90 years.
When Will Quality Dairy Donuts Return?
That's the big question, and right now, there's no definite answer.
QD hasn't announced a date for restarting bakery production, which means its famous donuts and other fresh bakery favorites could become harder to find as existing supplies run out.
Are Quality Dairy Stores Still Open?
There is some good news, though.
Quality Dairy stores remain open, and the company says its other food production operations are continuing as usual.

QD apologized for the interruption and thanked customers for their patience, promising updates as more information becomes available.
Hopefully, they'll get everything straightened out sooner rather than later.

Because around Lansing, a morning without a QD donut just doesn't feel quite right.
