It feels like we've been jerked around for ages.

Is Trader Joe's Opening in East Lansing?

We first learned of the opening of a Trader Joe's in the Lansing area back in December of 2021.

Finally! Prayers had been answered. Prayers, that is, of a dedicated Facebook Group called, "Bring Trader Joe's to Lansing, MI" that was first formed back in 2009. Its goal, pretty self-explanatory... to finally get a Trader Joe's in the greater Lansing area.

Our hope continued in March of 2022 when they officially broke ground at the Trader Joe's site.

What's Happening With the Trader Joe's Location in East Lansing?

But now, we've been waiting in this limbo land for construction to finish, when it's barely even started.

Since January of this year (2023), the only construction we've seen take place is portions of the foundation. The project had "struggled with steel supply chain issues since" last summer, and those issues continued.

However, there does seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

When Will Construction Resume on the Lansing Area Trader Joe's?

According to the Lansing State Journal, Trader Joe's East Inc. now owns the property the store is being built on, and "construction of the Lansing area's first Trader Joe's is expected to resume next month".

There's no word just yet on when the building will even be finished, let alone when the store is supposed to open. But construction should pick back up on October 2nd. Making us one step closer to having all those Trader Joe's cult classic products in our backyard.
