Walmart to Close 22 Stores This Year, Are Michigan Stores Closing?

If you have a favorite place to grocery shop you know how difficult it is to get acclimated to another. That's why when Walmart confirmed it would be shuttering nearly two dozen locations throughout the United States this year, I immediately wondered if would have to find a new place to shop.

In Michigan, we currently have 90 Walmart Supercenters throughout the Mitten. That's a lot of jobs and a lot of neighborhoods that are used to finding their bread in the same aisle every time. Closing any of these locations would have a significant economic impact as well as create frustration as thousands would have to get used to a new grocery store layout.

Walmart to Close 22 Locations

Business Insider reports that among the 22 soon-to-be former Walmart locations, 4 of them are in Chicago.  Walmart claims the stores cost the company tens of millions of dollars annually. Walmart has been closing stores over the last several years, stating that the locations were 'underperforming'.

In addition to retail store closures putting hundreds on the unemployment line, 5 e-commerce distribution sites will be shut down as well, adding hundreds more.

Michigan Walmart Locations Will Remain Open, But for How Long?

As of now, there are no plans to close any of the retailer's Michigan locations, but as every year passes more and more locations are added to the list of closures. If you're fond of your Walmart, make sure to let your dollars do the talking, so that location doesn't end up on this list:
