East Lansing Bar Wants $899 to Let You Skip the Line
I have officially reached the age where I apparently don't understand nightlife anymore.
Harper's Restaurant and Brewpub in East Lansing has launched something called "Harper's Select," an exclusive membership limited to 150 people.
The price?
$899.
Nine. Hundred. Dollars.
Harper’s Select Comes With a $899 Price Tag
What does that get you? No cover charges, no blackout dates, the ability to skip the line, 10 guest passes, and a fancy numbered metal membership card with your name etched on it. Membership is good through August 1, 2027.

Would You Pay $900 to Skip the Line at Harper’s?
And listen. I'm not knocking Harper's. If they've got 150 people willing to pay it, good for them. Get that money.
But I have questions.
For one, who has $900 to spend on skipping a line?
And two, who cares about going anywhere enough to spend $900 for the privilege?

If I pull up somewhere and there's a line out the door, I'm not thinking, "Man, I wish I'd invested nearly a grand to get around this."
I'm thinking, "Where else can we go?"
Maybe I'm just a disgruntled middle-aged dude now. That's entirely possible.
For $900, that line better not just disappear. Somebody better carry me inside.
Harper’s Select Membership Is Limited to 150 People
Harper's says this first group will be its only "founding class," and once all 150 memberships are claimed, they're gone. Members have to be 21 or older, and membership can be revoked for conduct violations or other rule-breaking.
So somebody out there is probably looking at this thinking it's the best deal in the history of ever.

Me?
I'll be at the place across the street where there's no line.
