The Lions' first home game of the season was against the visiting Seattle Seahawks on September 17. The two teams traded the lead multiple times during regulation play, and ended up going to overtime - with Seattle winning 37-31 following a 6-yard touchdown pass from Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith to wide receiver Tyler Lockett. The loss sent Detroit to a 1-1 record for the then-young season.

The Lions' only other home loss of the 2023 season came on Thanksgiving Day, when conference foe Green Bay sent Detroit's season record to 8-3 as the Packers won 29-22. The Lions never led at any point during the game.

Who Will the Detroit Lions Play at Home in 2024?

The NFL schedule each year is determined using a very specific set of criteria (this, from

  • Six games against divisional opponents — two games per team, one at home and one on the road.
  • Four games against teams from a division within its conference — two games at home and two on the road.
  • Four games against teams from a division in the other conference— two games at home and two on the road.
  • Two games against teams from the two remaining divisions in its own conference — one game at home and one on the road. Matchups are based on division ranking from the previous season.
  • The 17th game is an additional game against a non-conference opponent from a division that the team is not scheduled to play. Matchups are based on division ranking from the previous season.

Here's what that means for the Lions next season. Exact dates for each game will be announced later in 2024.
