
Michigan City’s Charming Main Street Crowned No. 4 Best in U.S.
Once abandoned as people flocked to the suburbs, main streets are making a comeback. One main street in Michigan is getting national attention as it has been voted the No. 4 in the U.S.

What do you think are some iconic main streets in Michigan? Not long ago, Calumet was honored as having the best main street shopping in the state.
USA Today and 10Best went on a hunt for the best main streets in the country in a new poll. A panel of experts chose 20 places with charming main streets that are "living history, have a vibrant culture, and serve as the hearts of their communities." Then it was put up to a vote to determine the ten very best.

Though it took the No. 1 spot in 2024, this time around Howell was voted the No. 4 main street in the country.

Howell, Mich., is the largest city and county seat of Livingston County. Platted in 1835 by a group of settlers from Detroit, it was later incorporated in 1863. Howell hosts many events and festivals throughout the year, including multiple along its iconic main street like the Howell Melon Festival and the Sunday Farmer's Market.
