This Missing Child’s Case Is the Oldest In Michigan
According to the Child Crime Prevention & Safety Center, every 40 seconds a child goes missing or is abducted in the US. 840,000 children are reported missing each year. While this number is very high, thankfully most missing child cases are remedied in a few hours.
Sadly, however, many cases go unsolved, for several reasons. The case of Adele Marie Wells is one case in particular here in Michigan that dates back to November 21, 1958, making it Michigan's oldest open missing child case. Details on the case are slim, but this is the story courtesy of the Charley Project.
Adele Marie Wells Story
On the morning of November 21st, 1958, second-grader Adele stayed home sick from school. Feeling better later in the day, she attended school after all. Her grandmother's house was on the way to school, so she stopped in to say hello. Little did anyone know, this would be the last time her family would see her.
The police report describes a "young man carrying a small girl to a dirty black Chevrolet". He was never confirmed to be the abductor, but multiple children claim someone fitting this description had tried luring them into the vehicle a few days prior.
Description
Adele will not look like she did when she was abducted at the age of 7, but Adele's general appearance will be the same. She is an African-American woman with black hair and brown eyes. Below is an age-progressed rendering of how she may appear now at the age of 69. If you have any information, you can submit a tip here.
