It’s Time to Decorate Your Home With Christmas Lights
Now is the best time to decorate the outside of your home with beautiful Christmas lights. Temperatures this week alone are perfect for putting up outside decorations.
For the first time in quite a few years, I've decided to put up Christmas lights all around the front of my house. I have countless strings of lights that I'm going to use to bring our home to life for the holidays.
Fun fact: Do you know who's credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition? The answer is Germany. (britannica.com)
Would you like to know what or whom inspired me to decorate my house with Christmas lights this holiday season?
It's a homeowner right here in Michigan. His name is Gary Slater and he's been decorating his home with an incredible light display since 1998.
Slater goes all out and I mean all out during the holiday season. Not only does Gary decorate from top to bottom in lights, he even decorates the grass.
And if you think that's amazing, read this. (courtesy of mlive.com:)
On top of that, Slater has the lights choreographed to music. Just tune into 88.5 FM from your vehicle and watch the show which starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until around 9:30 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays and about an hour later on the weekend through the month of December.
I can't even imagine what his monthly electric bill is during the holidays. I'm sure it's way above normal.
All I know is that I want to meet this guy so I can get some great ideas for my house. Even Gary starts putting up Christmas lights during the second week of November.
Slater says he starts putting the lights up the second week of November and about 80 hours later, he’s finished so he can start entertaining people from December 1st through New Year’s Eve.
I think this man is brilliant because he appreciates what the holidays are all about and I'm sure he likes to make other Michiganders very happy driving by his home at night to see the "Clark Griswold Wonderland of Lights."
