The pictures in the below gallery depict the Michigan ghost town of Watson...NOT to be confused with an entirely different Watson in the lower peninsula's Allegan County. Nope, this one is in the UP's Marquette County, a far cry from practically everyone and everything else. And best of all, it's a ghost town.

Watson is located at the intersection of County Road 426 & Si and the best way to search for it is to search the internet for the Superior Game Ranch or the Watson Bible Chapel. It's smack dab in the middle of the Gwinn State Forest Area. The downtown area is depicted in the pictures that includes a dilapidated IGA and a few other buildings that I'm not sure WHAT they once were.

The remaining population you could possibly count on both hands & feet. Watson has never been included in a census. It was never a full-fledged town and an even lesser unincorporated community. According to Michigan Name Places, it was a “mail distributing point in the general store of the General Store Company” before 1918.

One of the three old buildings that sit in a row along the road must have been used as a school; the videographer captured an image of an old torn-apart desk. In the old store are found very few relics, some maybe from the 1940s or 50s, including wrappers, bottles, and other general store items. Across the road from the old store is a pair of long deserted railroad tracks, overgrown with trees and bushes growing through.

These days, I believe the old IGA sign has been ripped down and stolen...but the store still stands. For now. It's only a matter of time before this awesome Michigan historical relic gets the same treatment as many other classic structures...DEMOLISHED.

So get up there and visit while you can! Meantime, the gallery below not only shows the outsides of these classic structures, but INSIDE as well...
