MICHIGAN SHADOW TOWN: Hinchman, in Berrien County
The unincorporated community of Hinchman is in Berrien County, within Oronoko Township, located near the intersection of Scottsdale & East Hinchman Rds. near Bridgman and Stevensville.
The Hinchman settlement was named after Hiram & Susannah Hinchman, who came to the Berrien County area in the 1830's.
The scant info available on Hinchman says it had a Lutheran church, Methodist church, schoolhouse, one or two graveyards, creamery, general store, and post office.

Hinchman also was a railway stop, with its own depot built in 1897 along the Milwaukee, Benton Harbor and Columbus Railroad. It ran from Buchanan through Hinchman to Benton Harbor.
It's always fun and interesting to take your own footage of these places and their historic buildings. You never know when someone will demolish them. Take a drive-thru on your Michigan roadtrip and get some shots of the old general store and church! See some pictures below!
