Governor Rick Snyder has declared a state of disaster in 17 counties and two cities following flooding in late February.

The declaration makes state resources available to local response and recovery efforts in those communities, which include Eaton and Ingham counties and the city of Lansing.

Counties and cities included in the declaration can receive extra state resources, including additional help from the Michigan State Police emergency Management and Homeland Security Division.

According to the Lansing State Journal, heavy rain fall combined with snow melt led to flooding in several areas in mid-Michigan, including Lansing, East Lansing, Lansing Township, Meridian Township, and Eaton Rapids.
