According to the Lansing State Journal, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed an executive directive she says will help secure equal pay for equal work among state employees.

Hiring managers at state departments and agencies may no longer ask job applicants their current or previous salaries until after they make a conditional job.

Women in Michigan earn 78 cents for every dollar men make for doing the same job, and it's time for that to change, according to Governor Whitmer.

There are approximately 49,000 state employees and 53.4% are female.  Salary history is one of the primary reasons women tend to be paid less than men despite laws that prohibit certain wage discrimination.
