According to the Lansing State Journal, many of the 5,300 workers at Lansing's General Motors plants could receive as much as $12,000 in profit sharing checks later this month.

Last year, GM earned a pre-tax profit of $11 billion, with an $11,000 profit sharing maximum.

Mike Green, who is the president of UAW Local 652 said, "it's nice that the workers get to share in the wealth."  "It helps the economy when you put money in working people's hands."

The Lansing Grand River plant scaled back to two shifts last month due to lower demand for cars compared to SUVs and trucks.
