When was the last time you could actually park for free in downtown Lansing? I'm not talking about for the whole day, but what about two hour free parking, does that sound good?

It all starts on Friday, June 3, free 2-hour parking not only in downtown Lansing, but in Old Town as well.

According to the Lansing State Journal:

“Summer is a great time to encourage people to get downtown or to Old Town and visit some of our great local restaurants and shops,” Mayor Andy Schor said in a press release. “By offering free, on-street metered parking every Friday, we hope to encourage residents and visitors to shop and eat local.”

You don't have to ask me twice. There are several really good restaurants in Old Town and in downtown Lansing.

Now that we can park for free every Friday for at least two hours throughout the summer, I plan on visiting the downtown area more often.

LSJ also tells us:

Downtown business owners have long asked the city to consider free parking, and many enthusiastically supported a similar free parking program in December.

“That was wonderful,” Peanut Shop owner Adam Seyburn said of the December program, which allowed people to park downtown free for two hours for the entire month. “If that was the long-term plan…?”

It's never easy finding a parking spot in downtown Lansing during workday hours, so this is somewhat of an incentive to get more people to visit downtown Lansing and Old town for what ever reason.

The word free is very eye catching if you know what I mean. When do we ever get anything for free?
