When it comes to shooting off personal fireworks in Michigan, there are technicalities that are legal, and some that are illegal.

According to clickondetroit.com, legally, Michiganians can set off fireworks the day before, the day of and the day after the 4th of July, or any recognized national holiday. If the law catches you shooting off fireworks any other time out of that window, you may be forced to pay up to $500 for EACH violation. If you refuse, you'll be carted off to jail.

However, according to the Clinton County Sheriff Department, this information is FALSE. Click and read what they have to say on their page HERE.

It's illegal to shoot fireworks if you're drunk, on drugs, on church property, school property, public sidewalks, streets or any property that doesn't belong to you, including open fields or neighbors' property without permission.

Property damage, death or injury caused by illegal fireworks can get you up to 5 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

20,000 fires per year are due to firework irresponsibility. Firecrackers cause the most bodily damage with sky rockets a close second.

Yes, fireworks are fun...I like 'em myself! But they ain't worth gettin' thrown in jail for. So take this information and protect yourself this 4th of July.....from personal damage, jail time or a hefty fine!
