Everett High School students boarded a bus Wednesday morning bound for Washington D.C.   A total of 47 band members and half a dozen parents made the trip to our nation's capital to perform as part of today's Presidential Inauguration opening ceremony.

This is very special to me because I went to school at Everett High School back in the 70's and I also was in the Everett marching band.

Today, Everett's marching band will have five minutes to perform during the Welcome Celebration on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, according to the band's director.

They'll perform snippets of Bruno Mars "Uptown Funk," Earth, Wind and Fire's "September,"  as well as the classic marching tune "You're a Grand Old Flag."

To get to Washington D.C., band members and boosters spent the past few weeks raising money toward their $36,000 goal.  Click here on the Lansing State Journal for more information.
