After nearly 50 years in business, Goodrich's Shop-rite in East Lansing is closed as of Saturday afternoon.

Goodrich's, which moved from the west side of Lansing to Trowbridge Plaza in 1967, was not only in East Lansing but of East Lansing, a family-owned store that had taken on the character of its community.

There were nine pieces of poster board hanging in Goodrich's entryway on Monday, filled in with thoughts and condolences, thanks and well wishes, many from customers who had shopped there for decades.

One anonymous group of customers donated $6,900 so that $100 could go into the last paycheck of each of the 69 employees.  The Lansing State Journal has more!
