Dollar Tree's Pricing Shift in Michigan
It seems that Dollar Tree is not only far exceeding the $1 limit by offering certain items for as much as $20. But that's not what has Michiganders up in arms, angrily waving receipts. It's the fact that $20 price tag is actually DOUBLE the manufacturer's suggested retail price.
The items are inflatable 3-foot Halloween decorations, including a pumpkin, a ghost, a grim reaper, and a spider, all selling for $20 each. Seems a bit pricey for a dollar store, right? Well, it gets worse, especially when you take a close look at Dollar Tree's website listings for the product.
$10 Box, $20 Register—What’s the Deal?
Notice anything? The boxes boldly say '$10'—while the register rings $20. You don't need to be an accountant to see that the "discount specialists" at Michigan Dollar Tree's have ignored the original price tag and opted to sell it for twice the suggested price.

Michigan Is Not the Only Target
And it's not just the Michigan locations. WBSM reporter Tim Weisberg, based in Massachusetts, was among the first to notice a red sticker on the $20 item and peel it back, revealing the retailer's attempt to double the original sticker value.

The lesson? Even Michigan's discount stores that claim they're giving you the best deal available may try to pull the wool, or red stickers, over your eyes. Don't be fooled, do a little research before parting with your hard-earned money.
