The 39th annual Detroit Jazz festival will take place this weekend.  The festival, founded in 1980, will feature about 60 national and local acts on four stages set up at Hart Plaza and Campus Martius in downtown Detroit.

It's billed as the world's largest free jazz festival.  The festival extends from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius, which is three blocks north along Woodward Avenue.

Several downtown streets near the festival site will be closed throughout the weekend.  Parking will be available at various downtown lots and garages.

Chick Corea is this year's festival artist-in-residence.  In addition to Corea, this year's line-up includes saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, fusion pioneer Ralphe Armstrong, among others.  The Detroit Free Press has more.
