When was the last time you went to your local library? I have to admit, for me, its been too long. I can't even remember the last time I visited a library.

According to the Lansing State Journal, the Delta Township District Library has eliminated fines for overdue items in an effort to encourage more people to use the library.

Not only eliminated fines, but also cleared any existing fines that were not yet paid.

The library's director said, for a lot of people in the community fines are a financial barrier. We noticed those families have stopped coming and we want to see those families back at the library.

The library, which serves Delta Township and the Waverly school district, eliminated late fees for children's materials last year.

Prior to the change, fines were 25 cents a day for items including books, magazines and audio materials. Fines paid in the past will not be refunded.

The library will continue to charge for lost or damaged materials. Please click on the above link for more information.
