Someone, I’m sure, in the Dimondale area will remember this local hangout, which is now just a memory: the Dandee Drive-In, located at 6202 Lansing Road.

Driving down that road, you couldn’t miss it – the road sign by the road was awesome; almost like a typical sign you’d see in Las Vegas. The off-center “Dandee” at the top, spelled out in colorful ball-shapes on top of poles over the winged, flag-type “Drive-in” sign. Below that were a handful of smaller signs that listed some of the goodies found inside” burgers, shakes, fries, etc. Below that was another sign that read “open” along with any other message they wanted to add.

The sign wasn’t the only cool thing: the building was laid out, stretched left and right on both sides of the entrance, with plenty of parking while you wait for the carhop to take your order.

The actual opening and closing dates are elusive, but it is believed to have been around during the 1960s, closed by the 1980s, and demolished in the 1990s. There was also a mini-golf course right next door, which made a great double-header for a high school date night: burgers and mini-golf.

Now the site is just a weedy, empty field, with one of the old drive-in entrances that now leads to nowhere. Scroll down and see for yourself.
