Local law enforcement and community members are teaming up tonight to help cut down on crime.

Neighborhoods across Mid-Michigan are hosting block parties and cookouts as part of the annual National Night Out. Neighbors are encouraged to leave their own porches and cross the lawn to meet their neighbors.

Several parts of Mid-Michigan are holding events this evening:

1.  Lansing: Mayor Andy Schor, the Lansing Police Department and the Lansing Fire Department will join several neighborhoods across the city to celebrate National Night Out from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

2.  East Lansing: The East Lansing Public Library and East Lansing Police Department are once again partnering to host the City of East Lansing's National Night Out, Touch a Truck event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 950 Abbot Road. Enjoy face painting, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, popcorn and more.

3.  Meridian Township: The Meridian Township Police will serve as the community host for the annual event celebrated this year from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, please click here on WILX News, Your Breaking News and Weather Authority.
