Coronavirus is killing comic books?

According to theconversation.com, For the first time in over 80 years, no new comic books will ship to shops, and production is on hold. This is the very first time a global event has stopped the comic book industry...not World War II, not 9/11, nothing...until now.

Steve Geppi, the CEO of Diamond Comic Distributors announced the closing of the distribution system of comic books in the U.S.

Thanks to coronavirus, he says comic retailers can’t service customers, publishers are having supply problems, and shipping is delayed. He says, the “only logical conclusion is to cease the distribution of new weekly product until there is greater clarity on the progress made toward stemming the spread of this disease”.

Even comic book freelance writers & artists received messages from their publishers telling them to cool it for awhile.

Marvel and DC could continue with electronic sales, but it would definitely hurt their retailers. Even good ol' Archie Comics will release digital copies.

Will this squelch comic book collectors since they won't be able to buy hard copies indefinitely? If so, comic book buying habits might never return in the same way.
