Just an Old Hotel Remains in the Ghost Town of Corinne, Michigan
55 miles west of St. Ignace in Mackinac County is the ghost town of Corinne.
This little ghost town has NO businesses, NO gas station, NO restaurants, so come prepared. All that's there is an old hotel – the Eagle House – that still stands as it has since 1888, watching over the railroad tracks that once exported lumber. There are a very small amount of residents scattered in a few places, but not many.
Corinne was once a lumber settlement in Newton Township, and was given a station along the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad. When it was given a post office in 1889, it was named ‘Viola’ - reason being, the powers-that-be were concerned that ‘Corinne’ would get confused with another Michigan town, ‘Corunna’.

The post office closed permanently in 1942.
When the post office went belly-up, so did the town. Thankfully, the train tracks have not been ripped out yet. This is one of those U.P. lumber towns that might not have much to see, but you still get a certain “feel” of what it once was all those years ago.
