Not just anyone can bake the World's Largest Cherry Pies...but it happened a couple of times in Michigan.

During the bicentennial in 1976, Charlevoix set a world's record by baking (at the time) the world's largest cherry pie. It weighed 17,420 pounds.....and I actually found myself in that huge cherry pie tin many years ago.

Traverse City was NO WAY gonna let Charlevoix beat 'em at their own game. In 1987, Chef Pierre Bakeries created a cherry pie weighing 28,350 pounds and 15 feet in diameter. It landed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest.

Unfortunately, in 1992, Charlevoix, Traverse City, and Michigan lost out to a Canadian-baked cherry pie that weighed 37,740 pounds. Big deal. We still have the two largest pies in America RIGHT HERE in Michigan!

Just in case you haven't been there in person yet, the one in Charlevoix can be found at 6591 S. US Hwy 31 while the Traverse City pie tin is located at 3424 Cass Road.
