Rumors of a rare (at least in Michigan) Canada lynx roaming around Michigan have been out there for weeks, but the Michigan DNR finally trapped one this week (I read reports saying there could be more than one). According to the Detroit News, they caught this one near Harbor Beach in "The Thumb" - east of Bad Axe. I'm surprised to see one of these that far south, which brings up the possibility of a lot more of these in lower Michigan. You might remember seeing the video of a lynx in Michigan that went viral a few weeks ago. That video came from Lexington, MI - which is still in the Thumb, but pretty far south of where this one was captured.

After getting evaluated in the Howell Nature Center, this lynx will be relocated to the Upper Peninsula where it will have the room it needs to hunt.
