It's old, it's creepy, it's cool, and it's one of the oldest remaining hotels in Michigan.

It's the Cadillac House in Lexington near the shore of Lake Huron in Sanilac County.

This inn/tavern began life in 1840 when it was built by Clark Mills as the Mills Hotel. The structure was built on the corner of Main & Huron streets, torn down in 1859, re-built and re-opened on the 4th of July 1860.

With a tavern intact, the Cadillac House was where all the local lumbermen and fishermen came for a little fun, dtink, partying, and occasionally relaxation. This activity  carried on throughout the 1800s until the early 1900s, when management wanted to get away from the rowdyness and turned the hotel into a fashionable place for tourists.

Of course, a place like this - over 185 years old - has to be plagued with rumors of being haunted. Hearing the whispers of possible hauntings reached the ears of paranormal investigative groups from miles and miles away have arrived and explored the Cadillac House. Their findings? They claim the place definitely contains the presence of a poltergeist.

The poltergeist has been given the name 'George', a possible guest who may  have died during his stay. Reasons he hangs around include the possibility he was murdered and can't leave until the murderer is discovered or he just couldn't bear to be apart from the hotel's famous broiled chicken!

I've heard that if you stay there on a Sunday night, you're basically on your own, as there is no hotel staff on Sunday overnights.

The Cadillac House has survived fires, The Great Depression, re-routed traffic, and competing modern hotels. Even so, it closed in 2016. It was re-developed and returned to its 1860 glory in 2018.
