Beware of Telephone Scams

Officials are warning area residents to be wary of telephone calls from people claiming to be with the Ingham County Sheriff's Office.

The office has received several recent complaints from people saying they received a phone call from a man falsely claiming to be Lieutenant Harris of Captain Harris, according to the Lansing State Journal.

The caller would then claim someone the recipient knows had been arrested or charged with a crime.  In both cases, the caller is requesting money to solve the issue.

Sheriff's office officials stress that they will never call citizens demanding money.  Most importantly, do not call back a number provided by the caller.
