The former Belle Isle Golf Course has been swallowed up by the foliage: grass, weeds, bushes, vines, and trees have taken over.

It was a nine-hole course that entertained golfers since 1922 on the east end of the Isle. For 86 years the course was busy and new amenities kept being added: benches, boat club, clubhouse, maintenance shed, picnic tables, and the last one added, sanitary restroom facilities......but one of the big attractions was the covered bridge.

The bridge looks as if it was made up of old urban or train cars and was a simple hit. Not meant to be anything other than a way to get across the water, the bridge became a favorite place to look out over the water, catch some wildlife in the bushes, and eat a sack lunch.

When the course closed permanently in 2008, it was all left to the elements. Less than a year later, everything was taken over by nature. The bridge became covered with graffiti and spray paint but still seems to stand proud, with explorers visiting regularly throughout the years.

The gallery below shows you the bridge inside, outside, and above.
