That’s what the Department of Natural Resources is claiming.

Whenever I see an armadillo, it’s usually in a western movie or TV show. They even show a couple of armadillos in the old 1931 Bela Lugosi version of Dracula. As far as I always knew, armadillos were from southern states like Texas...but now there’s a chance they’ll be m migrating into Michigan.

According to MLive, armadillos are moving north and already in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri.....working their way to Ohio...and it may be a possibility they are already in Michigan. Every now and then, a report will come in to the DNR of an armadillo sighting in Michigan, as well as Nebraska, Ohio, and Virginia.

Okay, so what? So what if armadillos come into Michigan? Are they dangerous? Or are they sweet little creatures who mean no harm?

Armadillos mainly eat worms and bugs and can rip up your lawn with their huge claws as they look for food. They come out at night to do their hunting, so you could wake up and find your yard shredded.

Will they attack you? Normally, no. But if you approach them in a threatening way, then heck yeah, they’ll defend themselves.....or curl up in their armored body to protect themselves.

But darn it, they ARE cute. I would be tempted to have one as a pet...but not a good idea. They can carry diseases and they will destroy your furniture and other belongings. You think cats destroy furniture? Armadillos could obliterate them. Not just your indoor stuff oe your lawn, but they can also put you whole house at risk.

Armadillos burrow into the ground to make their homes...if they burrow too close to your house, it can ruin the foundation.

If armadillos do start migrating and breeding in Michigan, they will be in danger from our harsh winters. Freezing temperatures could lead to dead armadillos. They hardly have any fur, little body fat, and could starve from not  being able to dig for food. Their chance of survival is to stay in their burrows.
