If you live in or plan to visit Barrow, Alaska, don't plan on seeing the sun for quite some time.

Barrow just plunged into polar darkness that will last for the next two months. The sun set on the city of just over four thousand residents for the final time of 2019. That breaks down to 67 days of total darkness.

Barrow, Alaska is hundreds of miles north of the Arctic Circle. It is the northernmost city in  the United States. Barrow is two thousand miles north of Seattle, Washington.

Now that the sun has set, the residents of the town will not see daylight for two months.  People often call the town "the top of the world" given its location at the northern tip of Alaska.

With the dark comes the light, in mid-May the sun rises and does not set again for about 80 days.
