Both Demolished: The Airport Motel and Drive-in, Negaunee

There’s not much to say about the old Airport Motel in the Marquette County town of Negaunee.

Once located along US-41 (exact address is unknown), the motel was next to the National Weather Service. The motel reportedly had a restaurant attached.

History of this old motel is scarce, but it’s believed to have opened in the 1960s or 1970s. Sometime in the early 2000s it closed for good, and between 2008 and 2010 the outer buildings were demolished – the restaurant, offices, etc.

In 2011 the entire motel was leveled to the ground. Now it’s gone – dust in the wind.

Directly behind the motel was once the Airport Drive-in Theatre. The last movie they featured was Top Gun, so evidently the theater closed sometime during the mid-1980s.

That’s about all there is to say about the two; all that remains is a grassy field where the drive-in once was, and what’s left of the motel is just a stain of rubble. Photos are below.
