Another UP Inn That Bit the Dust: The Aerotel Lodge, Dickinson County
Here we go...another UP inn bites the dust...well, it bit it a number of years ago, which is a shame because it was a pretty decent-looking lodge.
It was the Aerotel Lodge in the Dickinson County town of Kingsford.
Once located on Riverhills Road, the lodge is believed to have originated in the 1940s. It lasted as an inn until it went up for sale in the mid-1970s. It was turned into the Blind Duck Supper Club - an 80-seat club which included six lodging rooms, a cocktail lounge that held 35 customers, and a dining room.

That lasted until approximately 2009, then it was taken over by a new owner who ran it as a regular restaurant called the Iron Duck Cafe’, with its opening in November, 2012.
It closed and sat empty until it was sold a few years later. It was made into a private residence, which it remains as of the 2020s.
Sitting on the shore of Cowboy Lake, it also has access for seaplanes.
It must have been quite the place back in the 1940s.
