ABANDONED MICHIGAN: Packard Automotive Plant, Detroit
WARNING: Under no circumstances should you enter this property. By doing so you risk bodily harm and/or prosecution for trespassing on private property.
The old abandoned Packard auto plant in Detroit could very well be one of the most dangerous abandoned sites in our entire state.
The plant began construction in 1903 and was finished in 1911.....and it's a MONSTER (SEE PHOTOS BELOW).
Sitting on 40 acres, this behemoth lasted 47 years until it finally shut down operations in 1958. Afterward, it was used by a few other businesses but finally vacated for good in 2010.
Or was it?
Well, no...there are homeless vagrants who have set up living spaces in various parts of the building. The whole place is a graffiti artist's paradise along with bits & pieces of scraps being taken out & resold or kept for whatever purpose.
The plant was bought in 2013 but it seems questionable what will happen with it.....attempt to reconstruct or demolish?
If you plan to visit, I wouldn't suggest it. It's dangerous not just because of the unsafe conditions but also you never know who will be lurking around the corner or in a dark space. Just peruse the photos and leave it at that.
***REMEMBER, IT'S ALWAYS BEST TO GET PERMISSION TO INVESTIGATE OR ENTER ANY ABANDONED STRUCTURES.***
