Abandoned Diesel Repair Shop Under the White Pine Mine
Working in a mine is claustrophobic enough, what with the slim shafts and tunnels, along with the tight working conditions.
Those conditions are one thing – shlepping in an underground repair shop is another.
Where these repair shops may not have been as claustrophobic as a mine shaft, the working conditions are still confined in a tight area.
The images seen in the gallery below are taken from inside a diesel repair shop / iron garage under the old White Pine Mine in Michigan’s Ontonagon County.
The ceilings are about as tall as a man, the dirt floors are covered in rocks and there is still an old exhaust system that was used for ventilation.
On an old discarded wooden table is an old paper scroll - kind of like a blueprint - that shows cutaways of some of the engines. This was obviously used by the miners / repairmen all those years ago. been down there for well over 100 years. A very interesting find!
