Imagine you are walking thru the woods, and you stray from the trail and get off the beaten path.....and you come across some overgrown amusement park rides - completely covered in brush, vines, and with trees growing out of the tracks. That's just what will happen if you visit this particular area.

This former, much-loved amusement park now lies hidden within the woods, away from human eyes, and overgrown with a handful of old rides still standing, rusted, some with trees growing out of 'em.

Before Michigan residents trekked all the way to Cedar Point for some amusement park fun, one of the places out-of-state we enjoyed was Chippewa Lake Park near Medina, Ohio.

Chippewa Lake Park lasted exactly 100 years before it closed down for good.

It began in 1878 as “Andrew's Pleasure Grounds” as a place to picnic and go swimming. Rides were eventually added, with a roller coaster whose cars had to be pushed manually up to the top. In 1898 the park was sold to a new owner, re-naming it “Chippewa Lake Park”. It was successful until it was once gain sold in 1969. Failing to compete with nearby Cedar Point and Geauga Lake Park, it permanently closed in 1978.

Out of 16 original rides, only four are left standing to this day, covered in bushes, trees, weeds, and vines: the Ferris Wheel, Flying Cages, Little Dipper, and Tumblebug.

Why weren't they torn down with the rest? Demolition began in 2009 but before completion, attempts to sell the property failed and the remaining rides were left to become ghostly structures in the dark woods.

Scroll down and take a look to see how these abandoned structures look, and how the park looked many decades ago, during its heyday.
